This photo always has amazed me, and I thought I would share it. The rider is Philippe Karl, and he has an amazing book (Twisted Truths of Modern Dressage — scandalous title, I know) which among many other things talks about “imitation piaffe” of which we unfortunately see quite a bit even at the highest levels of competition. The incredible angle of the hindquarters, balance, and athleticism that this horse exhibits are precisely contrary to such “imitation piaffes” and I am totally in awe of his mastery of this delicate, challenging art of good riding. This horse, by the way, is an Anglo Arabian — not exactly “designed” for the sport of dressage. Go PK!!!
