Next to our chosen lifestyle, nutrition is the most important aspect of our health. We know it’s paramount for our horses’ performance, for the state of their hooves and overall health yet many riders overlook own “feeding requirements”. The current changeable weather that exposes many horse people to constant wind, cold and wet calls for measures that protect against infection. And so today I encourage you to look into your horse’s feed room…
What product could help you fight against bacteria and viruses? Some of you will be surprised, a lot of you knows it already, but not too many go for it regularly.
It’s cereal and more specifically – OATMEAL
Cereal contain soluble fibre, beta-glucan, which strongly stimulates immune system by activating its basic cells – macrophages. “As scavengers, they rid the body of worn-out cells and other debris” [read more: click]. It also has antibiotic and antiviral properties.
Here’s a recipe for a quick breakfast for those in a hurry or for those who do not like to spent time in the kitchen.

What will you need:
4 tablespoons of oatmeal (or more!)
1 cup water
1 cup milk (almond milk or soy milk is fine too)
pinch of salt
half a teaspoon of clarified butter
(Quick look at health benefits of using clarified butter: Click )
How to:
Mix milk and water and bring to boil. Put oatmeal in a sieve, rinse with cold water (they’ll cook faster and better) and add to the boiling water/milk mixture. Add butter and salt. As far as taste, you can add dried cranberries, previously soaked raisins, chopped apricots, etc. Cook under cover on very low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring frequently.
Since you’ve already gotten some oatmeal, you might as well use some for a serious inside-out Beauty Fix 🙂
What will you need:
3 tablespoons of oatmeal
6 tablespoons of boiled lukewarm water
1/2 cup skim milk
10 chopped hazelnuts
1 apple
1 teaspoon of honey
juice from half of a lemon
Pour water over oatmeal and leave to stand overnight. In the morning add the juice of half a lemon, honey, grated apple, nuts, milk and mix everything together. Milk can be completely replaced with water if you wish. It’s now ready to eat and give you a beauty boost!
Oh, and one more thing. Thanks to beta-glucan, oatmeal slows down the ageing process 🙂 In those suffering from diabetes type 1 and type 2 it is proven to reduce the level of glucose and insulin. In pregnant women with elevated sugar – helps lowering the sugar levels.
What’s not to like! Stay Healthy and Bon appetite 🙂
